Well this whole subject is one that I'm kind of iffy about because it's like I get it and it's awesome that women of color have FINALLY decided to break the horrible hair habits that we grew up on and show not only ourselves but other races that, contrary to your beliefs, women of color can grow our hair down our backs like you all. Yeah it may grow down our back and up and out every which way but we too have beautiful hair!! However, I also feel that we are doing way too much and we put too much emphasis on regimens and product and protective styling and blah blah blah. When in my opinion it's completely unnecessary. On top of that some of you go on YouTube and you praise these women or "Natural Hair Gurus", when they probably know as much as you do when it comes to hair and hair care.
Now don't get me wrong this is not intended to slander or degrade anyone at all. I'm just stateing my opinion on it. (p.s. I'm only addressing the things that i feel we put too much emphasis on or not enough and things that I think should be explained more in depth)

Co-wash: When I 1st heard of co-washing I thought it was by far the dumbest thing I had ever heard of. For those who don't know co-washing is basically washing your hair with conditioner. (click here to learn more about co-washing) After talking to a relative of mine who is going natural I decided to do a little more research just to make sure I'm clear on what people think it is. To no surprise it's exactly what I thought. However I don't believe it's the dumbest think I've ever heard of but let's be real for a sec co-washing is nothing more than conditioning your hair. Not washing it. Ok yeah you may put this conditioner in rub it in a little like you would as if you where shampooing your hair. But your not removing any build up or unwanted oils and dirt. Then these women say "Oh yeah co wash every so often but make sure you wash with a regular shampoo to remove all the dirt that co-washing doesn't." So doesn't that ultimately mean your not washing your hair? Yep your just conditioning it. Some people say "yeah I definitely noticed a change in my hair texture after co-washing" or "yeah it was much softer" That may be the case but that's what conditioner does!!

Product: This is one thing I'm kinda on defense for both sides. Simply because product can really help a style but too much can just cause a build up. All I really have to say about this is less is more. Trial and error products and try not to mix too many together. Try to lean more towards creams rather than gels because most gels dry up and flake and also dry the hair out.

Regimens: I'm a firm believer in hair care regimens or just regimens over all whether it's a skin care regimen daily regimen. You just have to make sure your doing what's best for YOUR hair. Just because it works for the next girl doesn't mean it's whats best for you. Meaning if your natural hair is thin you shouldn't be using a bunch of heavy conditioners or product. Your best bet will be to get a consultation by a licensed hairstylist to find out exactly what your hair needs.

Protective Styling: At the salon I previously worked in we would get a few people asking about protective styles. Now a protective style in general is any style that is protecting your hair from everyday damage. A protective style can be anything from a sew in to box braids to twist outs to up-dos. However, too much protective styling can be causing your hair more harm than help. How? Well manipulating the hair (especially when wet) is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair. Right under flat ironing, blow drying and curling. Pulling and tugging twisting and tensions can ultimately cause breakage. Your hair is weaker when it's wet therefore doing twist outs too much can also cause the same breakage that a pony tail does. Just try not too do too much styling that involves rough manipulation. Or be as gentle as possible.

Some Natural Hair Myths:
1.Dirty hair grows faster.....FALSE......Dirt and build up actually makes it hard for the products you use to work because it blocks penetration.
2.Greasing the scalp makes the hair grow......FALSE.......No product makes your hair grow. Your hair naturally grows on its own. Unless you have a medical problem or your follicles are damaged or your taking some certain medication then yes your hair is growing. Product only helps protect and keep your hair in good condition.
3.Clipping the ends makes the hair grow......FALSE....As I said before your hair grows on its own. Clipping the ends just makes the hair look better and style better because broken and split ends tangle more easy. Also you cannot repair damaged hair or ends. Yeah some products say that they do but they don't. It's just a way to get you to purchase the product. What i can say is split ends do get worse and the end up just breaking off. Therefore if the ends of your hair keep breaking and splitting you won't see any growth. So if you trim your ends and you don't cause any breakage you will in return see your hair growing.
4.Braids and sew ins make your hair grow......FALSE......This false into the "nothing 'makes' your hair grow" category. The only reason women think braids and sew ins make your hair grow is because while your hair is in the braided style more than likely you leave them in for at least a month. So during this time your hair is getting a rest from all the styling damage you cause which makes you then see the growth in your hair. I do think that braids, when done correctly, are a good way to protect your hair from you. Just remember to always give your hair a resting period in between braids and sew ins.

Random Rant.....I often get asked about product recommendations for natural hair and my answer is always the same. "There is no product out that is specifically for natural hair or chemically treated hair or black hair or white hair etc etc etc." Hair is Hair!! You don't treat your hair according to your race or whatever the case may be. You do what's best for your hair. Yeah there are products with black women on them and say they are for women of color but that's just their strategy to get you to purchase their product. Think about it...If there is a bottle of conditioner with a black woman on it and its saying that its a moisturizing conditioner. Just because its suppose to be for black women a white woman can't use it even tho her hair needs moisture? Makes no sense right??

Ladies the best thing for you to do is leave your hair be. A healthy diet, lots of water, vitamins, and proper maintenance is all you need for your hair to grow long and strong :)

Ive been growing my hair back from nearly being bald for the past 7 months. My hair is in good health (although I could use a trim lol) and the only thing I've been doing is wearing weaves. In between weaves I'd wash my hair apply 100% Coconut Oil and a moisturizing leave-in conditioner. I don't even bother with wash out conditioners unless I'm going to be wearing my real hair for a while. That is it and that is all!!

As I said before my intentions are not to down play or degrade anyone who is a natural hair advocate or natural hair guru or anyone with natural hair. Let's keep in mind that I am a licensed cosmetologist therefore everything that I have said is from my professional experience and knowledge. At the end of the day do what works for you. If your hair is growing and beautiful and healthy then good for you. Just don't let people who have little to know knowledge of hair brainwash you. And don't be afraid to ask that person Why? If they can't break it down and explain why...keep it moving. lol

Hi beauties. I know i haven't blogged in a while but you know how life gets.. anyway.. I've been meaning to touch on this subject for a while but i wasn't sure on how to approach it until just recently when i had a client purchase the wrong extensions for the hairstyle she wanted. until then it didn't really hit me that allot of women don't really know much about hair extensions or which ones are right for what hairstyle or even what is the difference in quality.

I am a strong believer in quality over quantity and I try and tell my clients the importance in investing in good hair extensions. I can't count how many people have sat in my chair pulled out their weave and it was the wrong length wrong color just wrong wrong wrong!! Well have no fear I'm here to help!!

Allot of people don't really understand whats the difference in the qualities of the hair..Well here is a breakdown.

Remy: Some companies have taken the word "Remy" and made it into a brand name. However Remy is a term used to describe the way the that the hair is taken from the donor and preserved to where the cuticle is intact and facing in the same direction. This method is done to ensure the extension have no tangling.

Suggested Remy company/brands:

Bobby Boss

Sensationnel

Remi Saga

Virgin Hair: Virgin hair has been the talk pretty much everywhere. Especially in the last 1-2 years. Everyone has been on the virgin hair kick but not too many people really understand exactly what they are purchasing. Virgin hair distributors are selling all types of virgin hair including Brazilian, Malaysian, Peruvian, etc etc etc. But lets be honest when you really think about it you really don't know where the hair is originally from. For all we know this virgin hair that everyone is praising is being made in the same place that the cheap 99 cent hair is being made. This is why I'm not big on the names when it comes to virgin hair. I more so choose my hair based off the appearance, feel etc etc etc. Most importantly don't let these Beauty supply store workers fool you!! just because it says "Brazilian" doesn't mean that's what it is and just because it's rolled in a bundle doesn't mean it's virgin hair!! Look at the hair..Feel it..Ask for a sample if you have to!! (side note: I've noticed that these beauty supply stores would take 1 bundle of hair cut it in half and roll it into 2 bundles. Then make you believe your purchasing 2 bundles. DO NOT let these beauty supply stores fool you!!)

Tips on purchasing virgin hair:

1.Never buy online unless you have done your research or have physically seen and examined the hair. I purchased hair online before and not only did the shipping take forever but the hair turned out to not really be of good quality. However there where thousands of people on the company's Instagram that vouched for the product. This is why i say that one person's idea of quality may not be the same as yours.

2.Never purchased hair based off someone else's opinion on it. What that person sees as quality to them may be trash to you so check it out for yourself.

3.Try and steer clear of the virgin hair that is extremely soft. A while back I made the mistake of purchasing this type of hair and not only did it shed allot, it was so soft that it tangled very easily and it was easily damaged from flat ironing and coloring.

4.If the price seems too good to be true..more than likely it is. Trust me..if the price is low there is a reason. I've also learned a lesson with that.

5.Always remember that good hair is an investment. Good hair can be used for years. I'd rather spend a 1 time $300 on hair and not have to purchase any for a year rather than spending $60-$100 every few months which will eventually add up to the $300.

6.Get a Hairstylist's opinion before purchasing or ask for their recommendation on good hair. Hairstylists come in contact with lots of different weaves and more than likely they've worn lots of different weaves.Which means they have more experience and knowledge on the different hair extensions.

7.Virgin hair doesn't come in colors therefore 9 x out of 10 you'll have to color it to match your hair color.

Picking the right hair for your hairstyle: As I said before I'm big on quality when it comes to hair extensions. However, expensive weave is not necessary for certain hair types.I always tell my clients that no matter what you should always purchase 100% human hair if you plan on doing any styling to the hair. Not human hair blend or whatever other terms these companies use to trick you. The only time it may be ok to not purchase 100% human hair is when your purchasing curly hair.

Choosing the right extensions:

1. Bobs: expensive hair is definitely not necessary for bobs unless that's your preference. I wouldn't recommend the packaged hair that is real soft and silky in texture.(i.e. Dream Weaver) Bobs are more structured hairstyles especially the short ones. The thicker textured extensions (i.e. Milky Way) is what I'd recommend for bobs.

2.Sew in: Better quality hair is what I'd recommend for sew ins. Simply because the hair will be kept in for a long period of time therefore it will need to be washed and maintained. Cheaper quality hair will not be able to withstand all the maintenance sew ins need.

3.Piecing: When adding pieces to hair for length or fullness you pretty much have to purchase the right hair based off the hair style your doing. Ex. Adding fullness to a bang? The cheaper quality hair is perfectly fine for this. Adding a little length? Purchase hair that is closest to your hair texture.

 4. Quick weaves/Pronto: I personally would not purchase expensive hair and glue it in. I think its a complete waist. But that's just my opinion.

Other things to consider when choosing the right hair extensions:

1. For sew ins if your getting 20 inches + always purchase 3+ bundles/packs of hair. why? because the longer the hair the thinner it tends to be.

2. Always make sure your extensions match your hair. Feel free to take the extensions and really compare it to your hair color. If you purchase virgin hair make sure you color it to match your hair color.

3. It's better to purchase hair that is closer in texture to your natural hair.

4.Make sure you buy enough hair!!!

Here are some companies/distributors of Virgin hair that I'd reccomend.

Basketball Jerseys have been making a come back over the last few weeks. More so for women than men. In the men's fashion world you have to be a very "fashionable" person to pull off wearing a basketball jersey as an outfit. Aside from wearing it to an actual basketball event. As always the Fashion world is more forgiving toward women and this is another one of those situations. These days even wearing a Basketball jersey puts you in the category as "fashion forward".

I myself am loving this trend!! Although the new variations that brands like Adidas have been coming up with are pretty dope. Im more into the classic basketball Jersey. I myself would rather buy an over sized jersey and wear it as a dress rather than buying a jersey that was made to be a dress. But then again that's just how I'd do it.

You can find a basketball jersey in all different forms these days. From sequin tops to high low dresses to cropped tops even leopard print ones!! <<which i definitely will be searching the internet day and night til i find. And it seems as if Rihanna has been the first to pretty much wear all of the different forms of the updated basketball jersey. Did she resurrect this trend?

I think it's safe to say that basketball jerseys aren't only exclusively for basketball players and fans any more.

What do you think of this trend?

This was originally going to be a tutorial on how to tie different forms of head ties/turbans but after seeing all the dope turbans this designer makes I decided to make this my first official feature

Marie Janae

Marie Janae is a designer who is a Detroit Michigan native currently living in NY. I began following her work some odd years ago on Facebook and although I am unsure how I came across her, once I saw her work I instantly fell in love. I'd like to compare her designs to the style of Betsey Johnson.(who btw is one of my favorite designers) So i guess it was only natural for me to admire her work. The two both have that whimsical out of the box way of designing that kind of forces you to have an opinion. Either you like it or you don't. Either way it grabs your attention.

As of lately she has been promoting her dope colorful turbans which actually inspired me to write this blog post. Turbans have been a rising trend lately and MarieJanae.bigcartel.com is pretty much the only place where you can find a large variety of turbans to fit any of your looks.

They're back like they never left and I must say this isn't something that I would have ever been able to predict. But like everyone says.. Fashion always repeats itself.

Over the past few weeks overalls have been making their way to every street, party, runway, photo shoot etc. While they where first formally reintroduced into the Spring season it seems as if the trend wont be leaving any time soon Who what have known that the once hideous overall would be considered "fashion forward" many years later.

These days everyone has been catching on to this trend and designers have even taken it a step further for the Fall season by making faux leather overalls!! So you can pretty much fill your wardrobe with different variations of the overall.

Now I know when you hear the word "wig" the first thing that pops in your mind is images of Nicki Minaj, Black Chyna, and K Michelle. Well have no fear. I'm here to replace those images with good ones.

Now there are a variety of different types of wigs. Half wigs, full wig with lace closure, u-part wig, partial wig, lace front wig, etc. It all depends on your personal preference.

I myself am a fan of wigs because it's a ready made hairstyle. You can wear them if you have long hair and want more fullness. If you have short hair and want to add length. Or if you just want to protect your natural hair from styling damage.

Wigs seem to have become the latest trend in the hair industry and have become more popular upon regular everyday women.

I personally began wearing wigs about 5 months ago after i decided to start growing my hair back from a short cut. My hair was too short to get a sew in and i didn't want to glue in the extensions that i paid quit a bit of money for. So i decided to make a wig. Since then I've made 3 wigs and while it was a challenge I eventually got used to them and began to love them!! I never had to worry about the wig falling off or whatever crazy thing your probably thinking because I hand made the wig myself and glued it to my molded down hair (this I don't recommend). Once my hair grew to a length that i was able to braid I began sewing the wig down. Which is the method I'd recommend. Some days i would remove the wig wash and style it then sew it back down. Some days I'd even just wear my real hair to bed then put the wig back on in the morning.

Now there are some cons to wig wearing. Purchasing cheap extensions, not properly attaching the wig, and doing a poor job of making the wig are just a few. Which is why I would not recommend doing it yourself if you have no experience. Wigs are so popular these days that there are plenty of people becoming experienced in making them.

I prefer making a wig over purchasing one from a store because there's just nothing better than having something personally made to fit you. Don't get me wrong, I have seen some women with store bought wigs that looked just as natural and fabulous as hand crafted wigs.

Another good thing about wigs is that if done correctly they can last for years vs. getting a sew in that'll only last a couple months. Then you'll have to pay more money to get another sew in. So you save time and money!!

So if your brave enough go get you a wig made! You may just fall in love!!

The highly anticipated Rihanna for River Island collection is now available!! Unfortunately some pieces have already sold out! :( What really sucks is all the pieces i wanted sold out. :( :( While I'm not really a fan of the majority of this collection I'm sure there are plenty who feel the opposite.

The collection features a wide range selection of skirts, dresses, pants, leggings and even underwear. Over the past few weeks River Island, along with Rihanna, have been slowly revealing the collection and even put 18 pieces from the collection up for pre-order. Or what Rihanna referred to as pRIHorder. Personally I'm just not really into this collection as a whole. I get the urban street wear theme, however I just don't really like the execution. The collection will be available in select stores on September 12. To view the entire collection click here.

How do you feel about this collection? Are you feeling it? Will you purchase anything? What pieces are your favorite?
MAC has finally released a date for the RiRi ♥ MAC collection. I must say I'm super excited to get my hands on this collection. Rihanna's first collection with M.A.C was a big success along with the introductory release of the Ri Ri Woo rettro matte lipstick. So yeah, I know this collection will definitely sell out. If not for the actual collection and the fact that its by Rihanna it will because of the dope rose gold packaging that Rihanna designed herself.

The collection features 4 lipsticks, 1 lipglass, 2 prolong wear lip pencils, 2 eye shadow quads, a lustre drop, 1 powder blush duo, a cream color base, a liquid last liner, a mascara, 2 brow liners, 2 lash sets, and 2 brushes. I have my eyes set on the majority of this collection specifically the lipsticks and eyeshadows. RiRi ♥ MAC Fall collection will be available online October 3rd!! Is it just me or does it seem like Rihanna is taking over 2013.

LASHES LASHES LASHES!!!

Keep calm this isn't a tutorial. lol While this day will be designated for tutorials I just couldn't wait to tell you guys about these awesome lashes!!! So i seriously have this obsession with falsies. If I'm anywhere that sells lashes i just have to go check them out. I was recently doing my usual visit to Sally's Beauty Supply and while i was picking lashes to purchase ran across a pair of my favorite "wispy" lashes. But they where purple!!! If you read my "Makeup Bag Must Haves" post then you already know that I sometimes apply a purple mascara to add a pop of color to my makeup look. So instantly decided to buy these lashes.

What a better way to start a new month than with new lipstick!!! Inspired by Ruby Woo's classic matte texture, MAC has created a limited edition Retro Matte collection featuring 8 matte lipsticks and 8 Pro Longwear lip pencils. This collection features lip colors that can take your look from day to night or take your day look into the night while simultaneously brightening up your Fall season.

I love this collection for its variety. It gives you options for pretty much any look your going for from Soft and flirty to Bright and Bold. I have my eyes on the orange and purple shades.

I personally have never used a MAC matte lipstick. Although i hear they are difficult to apply because of the dry matte finish, I'm sure I can find ways to work around that and this collection has inspired me to actually try a matte lipstick.Once you see the images of this collection in real time you'll be just as excited as I am. Hopefully i can get my hands on at least one before they sell out!!

This collection will be available in MAC stores and MAC counters on September 12!!

Over the years I've heard of looots of different products...Tail & Mane shampoo/conditioner, Glover's Mane, Head & Shoulders etc etc etc. I'm sure there are people that will argue me to the ends of the Earth in defense of these products. However, let me explain why I believe there is no product that will help grow your hair.

Before i go any further I'd like to remind you that there is always an exception to the rule. Every body and hair is not the same therefore what works for one person may not work for the next.

Now I could talk about this subject all day everyday but I'll try and keep it as short as possible. With that said I'd like to begin by saying there is no product that will grow your hair. As I said in my "Love The Skin Your In.." post what happens on the outside of your body begins on the inside. You first have to begin with a healthy diet and lifestyle. Drink lots of water, eat fruits & vegetables, take vitamins, workout, stay active. Yeah all that good stuff. While those things help stimulate hair growth, hair products are used to maintain the health of your hair on the outside as it grows.

Here are some tips on maintaining the health of your hair:

Use sulfate free shampoos (sulfate is a chemical that creates the lather in soaps, washes, and shampoos. It also strips the skin of its natural oils and drys it out)

Use heat protectors before flat ironing, curling, and blow drying your hair ( think of heat protectors as sun screen..you protect your skin from the sun and its UV rays...your hair needs that same kind of protection from the heat from hair styling tools.)

Moisturize and Condition properly

Deep condition

Tie your hair up at night

Don't use so much heat

Use the correct shampoo, conditioner, and hair products that fit your hair needs.

Trim those ends!!! I try and tell people that it's more appealing to have short healthy looking hair than long unhealthy looking hair. I'm not saying go chop all your hair off. Ease your way into it. If you're feeling apprehensive cut a little off this time and a little off next time. However, you will not see a significant amount of hair growth if you are still holding on to those dead and split ends that keep breaking.

Leave it up to the professionals!!!!! I can guarantee that the majority of you ladies who do your own hair are doing something to hurt the health of your hair. Especially the ones who flat iron, relax, or color your own hair. There is a reason you have to have a license and go to school to do hair. There is more to it than you think especially when it comes to chemical treatments. Find a stylist you trust and leave it in their hands. Let them know what your goal is when it comes to your hair and before you know it you'll have hair growing down your back.

Do Not grease/oil your scalp!! (This will not stop dry scalp nor will it help condition the hair. This only coats the hair and scalp and clogs the hair follicles. Thus slowing the hair growth process. Like the face, a healthy scalp is not greasy/oily.)

Get a scalp massage they stimulate hair growth.

One thing I'd like to say...and this is something i often find myself explaining to black women...There is no such thing as a product that's only for black people or only for white people and so on. Although there may be products that black people may use more or white people may use more, products are based on the condition of your hair. Meaning if you have dry scalp and your Black, White, Hispanic, Chinese, etc your going to use a product that will help with your dry scalp or your curly hair or your split ends or whatever the case may be.

Another thing I'd like to add.. When it comes to pretty much any type of purchase your making you basically get what you pay for. If you shop cheap you end up with cheap. Quality costs but its worth the money in my opinion. So if you want to go and spend $1 on a conditioner your going to get a $1 conditioner. You wouldn't pay $1 for a pair of shoes so why make your hair suffer?

One last thing...Try not to sit around waiting for your hair to grow. IT IS GROWING!! Unless you have some type of medical condition or your on some type of medication that's affecting the growth of your hair you have nothing to worry about. The hair only grows about 1/2 and inch per month on average...more or less... Hair growth is one of those things that takes time and it definitely is a process. It's up to you to maintain the health of your hair inside and out so that you'll actually see that growth.

My Personal Hair Growth Experience:
This isn't something that I can go too deep into detail with simply because it's still a process for me. I've had short hair for about 4-5 years and recently started growing it back as of April 5th. My plan was to pretty much wear weaves for a entire year and then go from there. Every 2 -3 weeks i take my weave out and shampoo and condition my hair with a moisturizing conditioner/shampoo and then I aaalways apply 100% natural coconut oil followed by a leave in conditioner. Since I do not wear my real hair yet I don't feel like I'm able to really go into detail with how I maintain the health of my hair because i don't actually style my hair. However from previous experience with my on and off journey with blonde hair and short hair styling I can say that I tried to use less heat as possible if any at all and I made sure I always applied a leave in conditioner and deep conditioned once a week.

Now this post was intended to just touch basis. I barely skimmed the surface. If you'd like me to go more in dept as far as product recommendations or pretty much anything related to this topic feel free to let me know via Instagram/Twitter @IamTinaMo , leave a comment or email me MartinaJmo@gmail
More than likely that did not "take your hair out." >>MORE THAN LIKELY<< Before i go any further with explaining what may have happened let me fill you ladies in on a little information

Disclaimer: There is always an exception to everything. Therefore this list may not apply to every single person in the world. You have to take into consideration health, diet, medical conditions, age and other things that may affect your hair's growth or amount of shedding.

On average, there are100 thousand strands of hair on the head.(depending on the growth stage your hair is in)

The average human naturally sheds about 50-100 hairs a day

Hair sheds so that new hair can take its place (this is all apart of the hair's growth cycle)

The front hairline along with the nape and crown area are the most sensitive and fragile parts of the head

The hair on your front hair line grows thinner than the hair on the rest of your head.

With that said...Ladies imagine you have a sew in or braids up for 3 months. During these 3 months your hair is naturally shedding everyday.
Rough manipulation of the hair (that is the pulling it actually takes to braid the hair and also the pulling and twisting from styling your braids) can also cause a small amount of hair loss.
Lastly, the weight from the artificial hair that is being held by your natural hair can really cause added hair loss especially around the front hair line.

Now add those 3 things together and 3 months later you take down your sew-in or braids. OF COURSE YOUR GOING TO HAVE WHAT SEEMS LIKE AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF SHEDDED HAIR!! So no the braids didn't "take your hair out." I'd say about 90% of that hair was the natural shedding of your hair that was kept braided in your braids or sew-in and the other 10% was from other factors.

TIPS:

Give your hair a resting period in between braids and sew-ins. This will help your hair recover.

Moisturize and Condition!!!

Apply a leave in conditioner before getting your hair braided or a sew-in.

Do deep condition treatments

When getting a sew-in leave the edges of your hair unbraided

when getting braid styles tell your hair braider to take it easy on your edges.

Hope this eases your mind ladies!! Stay beautiful!!
I love their bright Summer colors but there's something about the way OPI perfectly matches complementary undertones to create beautiful kaleidoscopic colors when making their Fall collections. Ive read that the collection is a mixture of the city's street chic style with a West Coast flair combined with inspiration from the city's most iconic elements such as the Golden Gate Bridge.

The San Francisco collection features 6 cremes, 6 shimmers, and 3 liquid sand polishes totaling a 15 nail polish collection which is a tad bit larger for a Fall collection.

I think this collection features colors that you won't particularly love right away but once you step out of the nail salon into the natural light you'll fall in love with the shimmer and surprising chameleon like undertones that reflect off of the natural light.

The "San Francisco" collection is officially available August 7th at professional salons and retailers including Pure Beauty, JCPenny Salons, Trade Secret, Regis Salons, Beauty Brands, Chatiers, Beauty First, Ulta/Ulta.com, Dillards, etc.

I'll post pictures soon of my personal favorites and an actual review on the colors to help your decision if you do decide to purchase any of the colors from this collection.

For the ladies looking to ease their way into makeup and simply enhance what you already have in a natural looking way, These 4 items should be your go to makeup pick ups. They're very inexpensive and also the perfect thing to add a little something extra to your beautiful face.

1. Nude & Pink Lip gloss/ Lipstick:
I absolutely love my nudes and pinks!! No matter what complexion or race you are nudes and pinks are very universal when applied correctly. They can even be mixed together to tone down one another or to create completely new lip colors.

My Fav Nudes & Pinks

I aaaaalways dilute my pink lipsticks with a nude lipgloss and my nude lipsticks with pink lip glosses ... I only have MAC lipsticks which are highly pigmented. Because of that you cant just spread them on both lips and go on about your day because not only will it look thick and pasty but when you take a pic it'll look 10x more thick and pasty. So i simply put lipstick on one lip then transfer to the other and apply about 3 dabs of the opposite lip gloss on top of my lipstick to tone the color down.

2. Artificial Eyelashes
I really don't have a favorite brand of lashes. I only wear strip and i normally go for the "wispy" look. Those are good for everyday looks and you can also add a little mascara to darken the lashes just in case you feel like you cant really see them.

Wispy Lashes
I normally purchase my lashes at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Sally Beauty Supply, and local Beauty supply stores. You can even by strip lashes with adhesive already attached!!

3. Blush
I almost never leave the house without applying blush. I think its the perfect think to bring color to your face especially if your not into colored lips. When applied correctly blush can fit any face and skin complexion if the right color is chosen.

4. Mascara
Mascara is another thing i can't leave the house without applying. It's that one thing that will have people asking "Are those your real lashes?" When i forget to buy my lashes I grab my nearest mascara. I'm not picky when it comes to mascara as long as the brush isn't to full and the mascara's consistency isn't too thick. I sometimes apply a purple or blue mascara to my bottom lashes to add a pop of color when I'm doing a natural look.

My Fav Mascaras

With these 4 items you can apply them the same way everyday and still look very natural and beautiful.
(Skin Care)Like so many young women I've struggled with skin imperfections such as acne, acne scars, oliy skin, uneven skin tone, amongst other things that pretty much come with the one thing we all dread most...ACNE!! I've struggled with this problem for a little over 5 years. Now...I could share my complete experience and product list but you'll be reading for days..literally. So to prevent boring you til death I'll share what ive learned from doctors and personal research.I'll share my personal experience nd finally give tips and advice.
first things first...im sure you've all heard this before but for the sake of my own blog i'll repeat:
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I AM A LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST HOWEVER I AM NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM A DERMATOLOGIST. IM SHARING MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THEREFORE WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU..

ok enough with the serious stuff..

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> MY EXPERIENCE:
So Ive tried everything from Proactive twice!!.. organic topical medication..doctor prescribed medication..and drug store skin product. The one thing that definitely worked for me without a doubt was what my dermatologist prescribed for me. this was a pill and a 3 step facial treatment. However the medicine was so strong that when i would go outside in the summer my face would literally burn!! Imagine someone sticking a million sewing needles in your face. Yeah that's what it felt like. Plus i didn't want to have to take a pill everyday of my life. So i stopped that. Proactive only made my condition worse and drugstore products just didn't seem to work how i wanted them to...

As i got older and actually started to really care about my skin and appearence, which was when i entered beauty school, i started doing research and tried to figure out what was really going on with my face.

Ive done numerous internet searches, read blogs, watched YouTube videos, product reviews, organic home remedies. Name it ive either read about it or tried it.

It wasn't until about a year and a half ago that i really started to realize where the root of my problem was. WITHIN!! As we all may or may not know, when it comes to the health of our hair skin and nails it all starts from within. What we put in our body and don't put in our body definitely shows on the outside. The most important thing you should know is that WATER makes up about 60% of the human body. Water not only makes up the majority of the human body but it also hydrates, revitalizes, and detoxifies the skin. We have to make sure we consume the right amount of water and nutrients so it will help to put and end of where the beginning of acne breakouts begin.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">LOGIC BEHIND SKIN CARE PRODEUCTS:
Once you have that together you start working on the outside. one thing i noticed from trying different acne products is that the majority of them have a three step system which normally consists of a face wash, astringent and moisturizer.A lot of people can tell you what you should and shouldn't use all day everyday but no one every really tells you why.

Before anything you should know that its a waste of time to wet your face wash and use whatever products you use and expect for it to work. You have to make sure that the pores of your face are open and ready to intake what your about to use. You do so by simply wetting a disposable cloth with water as warm as you can stand it for about a minute or two.. Yeah that's pretty much it. lol. The heat and steam from the towels will open those pores.

Secondly you should know that the order that ingredients are listed on the back of products are based off of the percentage of which they are mixed. Basically the first ingredient listed is what that product has the most of. So steer clear of product's who's ingredient list starts off with alcohol or sulfate. WE all know alcohol dry out the skin. I simply Google exactly what the ingredients are. You'll be surprised at what you find out.

You also want to steer clear of acne washes with a high percentage of sulfate ( Sulfate is a chemical which is responsible for creating the lather in soaps, washes and shampoos. However it strips the skin of its essential oils and also drys out the skin)

You want to lean more towards product with a higher percentage of water and also products tht contain benzoyl peroxide (this is used in most acne products for the treatment of acne)

you don't necessarily have to use a 3 step system. However, you should obviously use a face wash/cleanser and some type of ointment/moisturizer/treatment to apply after you cleanse to help deal with what your face will endure during the day.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">MY SKIN CARE REGIME:
I take my skin care pretty serious therefore i stick to a regime that i follow religiously.
I believe that if you don't follow a strict regime for at least 60 days you will never really know what works for you and what doesn't. 1 week - 1 month in my opinion, is not enough time to let a product do what it's designed to do.

About 4 months ago i started a new skin care regime which i found was what works for me.

1. I ONLY wash my face in the shower. Why? Because that way i can be sure that my pores remain open and the products I'm using aren't just being pushed around my face without a purpose.

I start off using a very light and gentle non foaming skin cleanser (Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser)
I absolutely love this product because it has a very low percentage of sulfate and its very gentle and smooth. I even remove my makeup with it.

During my shower i wash my face once with Cetaphil using my hands only. I neeeeever use a towel because towels hold bacteria. I then wash my face with Cetaphil for a second time which i let sit for the rest of my shower then I rinse.

2. After my shower i let my face air dry for about 2 minutes. You dont want to let it completely dry because your pores will close nd the next product you use will only sit on the skin thus defeating the purpose.

I normally put on my body moisturizer to past the two minutes

I then apply the Walgreen's brand of maximum strength 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel. Keep in mind the only ingredient in this product is the 10% Benzoyl peroxide. you want to use a Benzoyl peroxide that is 10% because anything below that percentage is not as affective and 10% is basically neutral and not too strong.

When i apply this i use my hands and pat it all over my face i don't wipe it on. Don't ask why i just do. lol

3. After letting that dry i then apply Proactiv's Repairing Treatment which is the 3rd step in the Proactive 3 step treatment. i also pat that on.

4. Every other day i exfoliate with Clean & Clear's Morning Burst Facial Scrub after using my face wash. Exfoliation is important in skin care because it removes dead skin cell. You dont want a build up of DEad skin cells.

5. When i feel like i really need it i use Proactiv's Refining Mask either during my shower or as an overnight treatment

6. I sometimes rub my face with squeezed lemon juice. It is said that lemon juice helps remove acne scars and uneven skin tones. I believe it has help with the removal of mine along with the products i use.

7. Lastly, I moisturize with 100% coconut oil (this can be used on the skin and hair, to moisturize or remove makeup..find it in the grocery aisle)

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">OTHER PRODUCTS I RECOMEND:
Witch hazel !00% Natural astringent : the name pretty much speaks for itself. If you feel the need to use an astringent this is awesome because its very light and it doesnt burn and has only two ingredients. Pretty much cuts out all the unnecessary stuff.

Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips: those little black dots you see on your nose are clogged pores. those are the reason your nose is so oily. Our skin naturally produces oil and for most people it produces more oil in the "T" zone. these pore strips unclog the pores letting those pores breath. However if your like me and have a ridiculously oily nose these pore strips help out but they wont solve the problem. I'd do this before a date or for those who are about to do a long photo shoot. Just follow the instructions on the box.

Soo um yeah thats pretty much it .. I know it seems like alot but once you apply it to your everyday routine you begin to do it naturally without even thinking about it. As i said before what works for me may not work for you but i do live for these products. lol
